Every so often something happens that makes you stop and appreciate where you are. Last week, Yamhill County's News-Register ran a feature on Aileron Hospitality, and on what we are trying to build here in Carlton.
Some of this goes back a long way. A childhood in rural Oregon, a private pilot certificate at seventeen, then years in technology building immersive sales technology for hotel chains. Those two halves never quite lined up until we bought land east of Carlton in 2005 and, eventually, planted a vineyard. This amazing place in Yamhill County, Oregon is where the idea stopped being theoretical.
The vacation homes came next, spread through town rather than stacked together, with a central lobby, meeting and workout space in downtown, above the Carlton Bakery. Bikes to borrow, and someone on staff who knows which tasting room is quiet at five o'clock. The shorthand we like is a hospitality campus made out of Carlton, with the town itself as the grounds.
The flying opportunities are there for the same reason. A morning among the redwoods, a ball game in Seattle, wine tasting in Walla-Walla, all of it doable before dinner. Guests wake up here and go to sleep here and see a great deal more of the Northwest in between than a car would ever allow.
Why this matters to us
We are not building this in a vacuum. Carlton is a small town with world-class wine, remarkable food, and neighbors who show up for each other. Everything we do is designed to send guests out the door and into those businesses. Seeing our local paper tell that story, and reach the people who live here, means a great deal.
